How A Timer Works

Jul 09, 2025

A timer is an electronic component with a timing function, implementing time control through a counter. Its core principles include hardware counting (such as a crystal oscillator circuit) and software counting (programmed logic). When the count reaches a preset time (adjustable from 1ms to 1h), an event is triggered, enabling on/off control, delay operations, or interrupt responses. Typical applications include motor start/stop control in industrial automation (with an accuracy of ±0.1%), energy-saving timing in consumer electronics (such as turning off the backlight in a mobile phone), and real-time task scheduling in aerospace systems.
